How to mix & match with a Capsule Wardrobe

How to mix & match with a Capsule Wardrobe

With Spring means we are also entering into some Spring Cleaning soon! And that time of the year, comes cleaning out our closets. Which is honestly such a perfect time to replace clothes that don't serve us anymore and to give our closets an overhaul!

I can hear you asking..."Chandler, what is a capsule wardrobe?" πŸ‘€

A capsule wardrobe is a collection of timeless, versatile pieces that can be mixed and matched in various ways. It emphasizes quality over quantity, enabling you to create multiple outfits with fewer items. The main goal is to make dressing easier, save space, and reduce clutter in your closet.

Honestly...everyone should have one! Like I said...this is the perfect time to move towards having one!

When you embrace having a Capsule Wardrobe, you have fewer clothes, which saves you time because there's less decision-making since everything goes together.

You save money because you invest in quality items that will last longer.

It reduces the amount of stuff you have and makes it so your closet is more organized.

And it's gentle to the planet because you are creating less waste and consumption of products!

The pieces you should have in any capsule wardrobe!

There are a plethora of items that you should have in your wardrobe if want to dive into the world of having a capsule wardrobe! These items will help you to maximize your ability to make any outfit you need, and will give you the base layer you need to add scarves, jewelry and hats.

Neutral tops: White/cream, black/brown, gray/navy shirts, blouses and sweaters.

Classic Bottoms: Jeans, navy trousers, skirts and leggings.

Versatile Dresses: Simple, solid-colored dresses that be dressed up or down.

Outerwear: A well-fitted blazer, coat or a versatile jacket.

Remember...fabrics are seasonal, not colors!

I know that is a little controversial. But I guarantee if you try and wear a bright pink shirt in your season in dead winter, you're gonna love it! Swapping out and storing items during each season will add a little bit extra organization and structure to your closet! Who actually wants to see their puffy coat in the middle of summer as you're headed to the pool!?

I know I don't!

Neutrals are for any and all seasons! By sticking to the neutrals in your color palette as your base, you can add in a few accent colors (like pastels or deep jewel tones) that complement your neutrals! Doing this will help create a cohesive look.

And ultimately it will make mixing and matching easier!

OKAY. Do you feel like you just drank out of a water hose!?

I get it, it can be a lot! And you don't have to throw out you whole closet as you swap to doing a Capsule Wardrobe! I always tell people to adopt a "one in, one out" approach!

This helps to maintain a balanced wardrobe by ensuring that for every new item you bring in, an old one is removed. Shop with intention rather than making impulsive purchases, and make it a habit to regularly reassess your wardrobe to keep it curated and reflective of your current style.

xoxo,
Chandler
